Statement by We Work For Health Executive Director Dan Leonard on World IP Day

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

April 26, 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C. – We Work For Health Executive Director Dan Leonard issued the following statement in recognition of World Intellectual Property Day:

“Today, on World Intellectual Property Day, we celebrate the crucial role of IP rights in biopharmaceutical innovation and health care. These protections serve as the backbone of transformative treatments and cures, empowering millions of scientists, researchers and developers to continue their dedicated work on behalf of patients.

We must not take this for granted. Proposals that threaten the security of patents and IP rights risk weakening future discoveries and successes in the biopharmaceutical industry and beyond. I urge lawmakers to prioritize policies that encourage investments in cutting-edge research and sustain America’s global leadership in the life sciences.”
