The Biden Administration recently announced the first 10 drugs subject to price negotiations under last year’s Inflation Reduction Act, a victory 20 years in the making. Medicare negotiations are expected to save the federal government $98.5 billion over the next decade. Other IRA rules will directly help patients by capping out-of-pocket spending and limiting the cost of insulin and vaccines.
But no bill is perfect. And the IRA’s drafters, while well-intentioned, included two seemingly small provisions that could have dire consequences.
